The Summer Shift
The writing goes on, while I look forward to a summer full of travel. My wife and kids are so busy with meetings, recitals and ball games. I've taught myself some blues piano -- a little boogie woogie. I've been oil-painting by request of my mom. She wanted me to capture a stunning sunset, and I've enjoyed zoning out on colors instead of words. The weather here is nice again, and I've taken many long walks around the lake with my dog, Ivy. When I walk, I think. I never plug into music. I might jot a note into my phone now and then, but only if the thought really strikes me. Other times I look at my old house and wonder what needs improvement. Maybe that popcorn ceiling in the kitchen will finally get smooth. I've been writing and revising all winter, and now I'm happy to find a change in my routine. At the same time, I feel lost, wandering around, searching for something meaningful to fill the hours. As for now, I'm in query mode, sending emails, and hoping for a little luck.
