Go CUBS!

I feel the need to write a baseball blog once in a while, and what better time than October.

Yesterday, my Chicago Cubs lost the division title to the Milwaukee Brewers, and I can't say that I'm too surprised. The brew crew is blazing hot right now. The WI team was happy and locked in, while the Cubs seemed tired. Both pitched did well, but the Brewers had much more hits. It is, of course, a team game, but there happened to be two NL MVP candidates on the field, and one out-shined the other. Christian Yelich, of Milwaukee, had the first hit and the first RBI of the game. He set the tone and came through when he was needed. On the Chicago side of the ball, Javy Baez struck out twice when opportunity was knocking. With 2 out in the bottom of the 9th, Javy did finally get a hit (against Brewer's smoking closer, Josh Hader) but it was too little too late. Cubs lost 3-1, at Wrigley.

The good news is that the Cubs get a second chance tonight. They play the wildcard game against the Colorado Rockies. So what is the key to a big win? First off, the Cubs relief pitching is terrible, and everybody knows this. Pitching has really fallen apart this season, largely due to injury, with Yu Darvish and Brandon Morrow who are both new signs, total no-shows, and tremendous disappointments. Since the pitching sucks, the Cubs need to get their bats hot right away. Their only run against the Brewers was a solo home run, by Anthony Rizzo. That was a lot of fun to watch, but overall it's bad baseball. The Cubbies must reach base often, and put pressure on the Colorado pitching. Cubs need to score at least 3 runs by the 6th inning, because once the bullpen will suck, guaranteed. Jon Lester, the lefty, gets the start for the Cubs. He's the veteran ace, who has been hit or miss all season, but usually shines under pressure. Colorado has Kyle Freeland on the mound. I know nothing about this dude, and little about the Rockies in general, so it'll be frustrating to watch. Time to do some research.

It's difficult to write about sports. Thoughts come from every angle, and it's hard to make paragraphs flow. Also my heart is in it so much. I love the Cubs. I hate to see them lose. Hopefully this blog is good luck, and the Cubs will make it to the dance, and redeem themselves against the Brewers. If not, I jinxed them and will never blog about the Cubbies again.
